Our first week at school!

 Kiaora Whanau,

Wow-what a busy four days we have had in Kakano 8! The children are settling in great, making new special friends, and learning to manage themselves at our school. I know they are feeling tired because I am too! They are all doing so well and I am super proud of their efforts this week! Thank you for following our Level 2 protocols at school.

A few reminders:

  • Homework bookbags go home with the expectation that children can attempt to do 'homework' each night. Understandably this doesn't always happen every night, so remember not to push your child if they are not in the mood, however, encourage them to get into good habits.  Students will get two books a week to bring home. One on a Monday and one on a Wednesday. These are books students have looked at in class with me in small groups. At this stage, we are just getting the children to look at the pictures and listen to the words and learning that we read from left to right on a page.
  • Library book bags also came home today. Children get to choose two books each week providing they bring back their library books each week. Our Library day is THURSDAY so try to remember to bring back library books before next Thursday's visit. Children choose their own books, and we try to guide them towards age-appropriate books. Should they bring a harder book home, (because they liked the cover most probably!) try to read a little bit of it to them.
  • Tomorrow is Sausage sizzle day - children can bring $1.50 for a sausage sizzle at lunchtime and/or $1.50 for a juicie as well.   If you get this message too late, never mind, it happens every week on Fridays!
  • Please encourage your children to eat during our designated break times. Some children are choosing not to eat and are then feeling hungry later.  They will soon learn to eat a little faster, I am sure!
  • I will keep you up to date via this blog if anything changes.
  • I am also working to get Educa set up and will send out email invites so that I can start posting learning stories for our children.
  • Finally, I have included a few photos below of some of the work we have been doing, in amongst all the playing!

NO HAT NO PLAY In terms 4 and 1 it is compulsory for the children to wear the blue school bucket hat in the playground.  From this week the children will be using the no hat, no play rule, the children without a school hat will have to sit in the shade outside the classroom during playtimes.  Hats can be purchased through the school app, website or from the uniform shop. They are also available at times from The Warehouse. Please name your child's hat clearly. Swimming Last week Kakano 8 had a wonderful time in the pool.  It is very warm so even on cold da
