 Week 7

Wow, it is week 7 already!


Once again we are so proud of all the children and how they have adapted to level 2.  They have all been amazing at getting themselves into class and getting their jobs done before settling down for a great day of learning.  This is something you should all be proud of. 

Just to remind you all what level 2 looks like at school

  • Parents must sign in at the gate using the Covid Tracer app if you are coming into school.

  • All children must be at school by 8:45 and picked up by 2:45.

  • Parents are not allowed into the classrooms.  If you wish to speak with your child's teacher please send them an email to arrange a time.

  • The teachers are cleaning surfaces throughout the day.

  • All children and teachers are handwashing regularly as well as using hand sanitizer.

  • It is expected all children will be at school unless they are unwell.


Please remember if you need to speak to the teacher please email to set up a time, the best time for teachers to meet parents is after school as we are busy in the mornings.


We have noticed a lot of the children are bringing toys from home into the class.  We have a huge amount of toys for both inside and outside for the children to use while at school.  We ask that the children keep their toys at home.  The teachers are unable to take responsibility for any toys that are lost at school.


We have some very exciting news in Kakano.  

We currently have some chicken eggs in an incubator.  The children are all excited about working through this process.  We now have to wait around 18 days to see if we end up being the proud owners of 7 chicks. 

Kakano 8 is also getting two class fish this week called Pango and Karaka. This will be exciting for all of us.

The ST Mary's PTA will be selling Father's Day presents this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday lunchtime.  Each gift is $3.  Students can bring $3 along to school on any of those three days and purchase a little gift for their dads, granddads or special father figure in their lives. This is a great fundraiser for our school and allows children to choose their own gifts.


Remember our Kakano 8 Library day is on Thursdays - please bring library books back either Wednesday or Thursday. Children need to return their previous books before they can get two more out.


Fridays is our juicie ($1.50) (iceblock) and sausage sizzle day ($1.50)- children need to bring their money to school and give it to the teacher at the beginning of the day.

Alternatively, you can order your children a Pita Pit lunch order for a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday only. Check out www.lunchonline.co.nz to order.

We also have 'Go for It' exercise on Tuesday and there is gymnastics available during Wednesday Lunchtimes.

Week 6 Notices We are now half way through term 4!!! It has already been a busy term and we look forward to the next few weeks filled with some exciting events. Thank you for the continued support with reading at home it was great to see all of the children’s improvements after a testing week last week.   No swimming this week! The seniors are using the pool all week.   Production practise is still happening at school. The actual production will be held in Week 9 on the 8th and 9th of December. Holiday Reminders :-)

 Kiaora Whanau, WOW! Your little ones have been at school for five-seven weeks! We have had an action-packed term full of learning and settling in, especially with Covid restrictions.  Today your child brought home their normal book bags with a few extra things inside: This week's two x reading books  Holiday reading log - Please fill this in as they read over the holidays as it counts towards a prize draw early next term. Please bring this form in Term 4, Week One.  PTA Raffle fundraiser - please sell this fundraising tickets and return the money and ticket butts to school next term. Only the eldest child in each family brought these home.  ABC learning wall - Our children are good at saying their ABC's now we just need to practice identifying each letter, out of order of our ABC song.  Holiday reading plastic bag of books - bring back in Term Four Week One. Week 9 - Term 4!

Week 9 This week is a very busy week for our children. Please read through the following information carefully to make sure you are aware of what is happening in Kakano. School Production: Peter Pan Wednesday 1:00pm and 6:30pm. For the evening show children will need to be dropped off no later than 6:00 at their classroom. The teachers will help them to get dressed in their costumes. Children are to be collected by their parents from the classroom and the conclusion of the show. If you have any questions please feel free to contact your child’s teacher. We have released some more tickets for the show, you can purchase these from the school office for $5. Student Led Celebrations: Thursday 10th December This Thursday between 8:00am and 10:00am you are able to visit your child’s classroom to celebrate the wonderful learning they have been a part of this year.
