Term 3 / Week 4

10th August 2020

Dear Kakano Parents and caregivers,

Welcome to Kakano 8! It has been a busy first day, so I finally have time to write our first blog post. This blog will come out each week (usually on a Sunday evening / first thing on a Monday morning).

The blog will contain important information for our children for each week coming.

I had a great time with your children today, getting to know each of them better and will look forward to continuing to find out more about them as we begin their school journey together.

A little about me:

My name is Mrs Jane Trask and I am married to Richard. We have four sons aged between 5 years and 23 years old!  My family loves sport, summertime and water activities.  We are a very active family.

I have been teaching in New Zealand High Schools for the past 15 years and I am so excited to begin my first Primary teaching job this year at St Mary's.

I love to dance, be creative and enjoy music and arts as well as sport.

Each week one of the Kakano teachers will write the combined blog and I will add to it as needed.

Parents, please check your children’s lunchboxes contain a healthy range of foods to ensure that your children have enough sustenance and energy to last the entire day of learning. We had a couple of lunchboxes today that only contained sugary snacks.

Our children are lucky in Kakano because they have three food breaks throughout the day. We have a ‘brain break’ at 9.40am where our children can choose ONE piece of fruit or vegetable snack to eat on the mat.  Students if they wish, can also have free milk from our milk in schools programme.

Then we have normal morning tea food time after morning play and lunch after lunchtime play.

Below are some ideas of different healthy food options:

·        Sandwiches

·        Cheese

·        Yoghurt

·        Fruit

·        Veges

·        Crackers

·        One biscuit

·        Raisins

·        Other Dried fruit

·        Muesli bars

I am more than happy to discuss lunchbox ideas if you need an extra hand. Most lunchboxes were excellent today!

Week 4

Welcome to week 4 in Kakano.  We welcome Jane Trask who is starting a new class - Kakano 8.  Welcome also to the children who will be in this class.

On Friday we had a lovely day celebrating Mary Mackillop.  Everyone sang and behaved beautifully during Mass.  We had a lovely shared morning tea together and the children enjoyed going to different classrooms to take part in the different Mary Mackillop activities.

This week in Kakano:

This week is Maths Week and there will be lots of fun activities for the children to take part in during the week.

Tuesday:

  • Milo fundraiser for Niksham and his family.  If you would like to order a Milo don’t forget your cup and $1.  The Kakano class with the most Milo orders gets marshmallows added to their Milo.
  • Go4It - fun activities with the Sport Bay of Plenty facilitator.

Wednesday:

  • Kakano gymnastics in the school hall at lunchtime.  Boys can wear their uniform and girls just need a pair of shorts.  All Kakano children are welcome to come along.

Thursday:

  • 10am - Assumption of Mary Liturgy in the school hall.

Coming Up:

A reminder that we have a Teachers Only Day on Friday 18th September.  There will be no school for children on this day.

Enjoy your Sunday afternoon.
