Kiaora Whanau (Family)
This week we have been practicing how to introduce ourselves in Te Reo Maori.
We have learned the following:
Ko ___________(Mrs Trask) Toku Ingoa (My name is Mrs Trask)
Ko __________ toku mama (My mums name is__________)
Ko ___________ toku papa (My dads name is ___________)
Ko ___________ te maunga (My mountain is Rangitoto) Mrs Trask is from Auckland.
Please ask your children to see if they can remember how to do it themselves. They will / may have a different mountain than mine, depending on where they are born / whakapapa (relate) back to.
CONGRATULATIONS to Arya in our class and her parents, who have welcomed a brand new baby sister born last week.
BOOK BAGS:
Our book bags go home every day and need to come to school each day.
During term time, Mrs Trask tries her best to check reading homework EVERY day from the night before. Students can get one sticker per day their homework is completed.
Each week two books will come home, one on Monday and a second one on Wednesday. these are your child's reading books for the week and are returned on a Monday ready for the next week's books.
Poem books (With a new poem each week) go home on a Friday to practice over the weekend and need to also be brought back on a Monday.
If I need to contact you over a simple matter I will pop a little handwritten note into your child's book bag. Please check book bags each night.
Students will also have their word wall (sight words) and reading homework log for you to fill in. Word walls have different words underlined each week for you to help your child to recognise. These words are sight words for your child to remember by looking at them. Only Mrs Trask will colour in the words during class time, so please practice these with your child a couple of times a week or every night alongside reading if you can. The sight words in their books are the same as the ones to practice.
If your child is too tired to read their book, read it with them or alternate pages together. This still counts as homework so sign it off!
Older Kakano 8 children will also have their alphabet cards to practice identifying the letters out of sequential order. So you can practice asking them a few letters each night.
Newsletters and notices also go home via the book bags. :-) Any questions please ask!
LIBRARY BAGS:
Our LIBRARY DAY is THURSDAY so library books are issued on a Thursday and need to be brought back by the following Thursday morning to exchange for two more. Library visits are lots of fun and help teach our children a further love of books and reading for fun.
SIX WEEK INFORMAL PARENT CATCH UPS:
If your child has been at school for over seven weeks now I will be trying to catch up with each of you either in the morning before school or after school one day next week to have an informal chat about your child. Let me know what times suit each of you :-)
Have a great weekend and look out for our Sunday Night Blog. IF you signed up for the emails unfortunately those notifications do not come through until early Monday morning as our Blog system is American and we can not change that. Please get into a habit of checking it on a Sunday evening, please.
I also try to do an Educa post at the end of each week to show what we get up to during that week. :-)
Thanks so much
Mrs Trask
